Happy Places

How hot are you?!

The thought of turning on the oven in my sweltering 120 degree summer sublet non air-conditioned apartment is not an appealing thought these days. Actually, the thought of turning on the stove or moving for anything other than a glass of water is a physical and mental struggle.

Since I’m not the only struggling with the heat, I tweeted with the hashtag #happyplaces if anyone had pictures to share of a time and place that was both cool and and makes them smile.

Welcome to Happy Places.

On the Road to Hana in Maui, I stopped with friends at a roadside coconut stand. Young fresh coconuts produce sweet coconut water that is refreshing and the fact that it’s opened by a machete makes it that much more fun.

Olga over at Mango Tomato has a happy place and it’s in Puerto Rico standing inside a cool cave looking out at the calming rain.

It’s not just water that equates to happy places, a Ferris Wheel on the Santa Monica Pier makes for good times according to Josy.

Welcome to Eau Claire, WI from Amanda of Maroc Mama. A constant breeze along the river is the perfect spot for summer concerts.

Kelly from The Gouda Life must know what she’s talking about as this photo is from Earthlodge, an avocado farm high above Antigua, Guatemala where you live in tree-houses and are treated to authentic Guatemalan cuisine. An avocado farm is certainly a happy place.

Lauren of Celiac Teen has a soft spot for the mountains. This is on the way to Fernie, British Columbia. “My favourite place is always in the mountains. This was on our way to the cabin one day when our Japanese exchange students were visiting. They were in awe of it all, and seeing the rays of sun peak through to light up the mountain was more than the average mountain beauty. It always makes my heart feel at peace to see this photo.”

La Phemme Phoodie Wendy just came back from the Acadia National Park in Maine which houses this incredible Sand Beach plus lobster rolls! Happy place indeed.

This heat wave truly is unbearable. Love that you put together this post of happy places because I feel like anywhere is better than here right now.

My happy place is with a Sno Beach sno cone in hand in Austin, TX. You have not had shaved ice (outside of Hawaii) until you have had a Sno Beach. It’s the fluffiest shaved ice I have ever encountered! Surrounded by friends and family is the icing on the cake.

What a great idea you had and look at the fabulous post and pictures your got out of it. I’m late to comment but I hope that your apartment is one again becoming one of your happy places with the cooling temperatures.
