Nutella Avocado Brownies

by Tastes Better With Friends on April 14, 2011

We haven’t met and we’ll likely never meet, but that doesn’t stop me from wondering what it would be like.

For me, it always begins with a beautiful smile and I envision you having just that. In fact, I’m smiling right now at the thought of your smile.

Like me, you adore Nutella, that’s got to count for something, right?

I wonder how we’d manage in the kitchen together. I know I’d want to cook for you and I know you’d feel the same way. I guess it would depend on the size of the kitchen. Maybe one is responsible for wine and music while the other is busy cooking away. Or maybe we’re both in the kitchen regardless of its size because it would be fun to find reasons to reach around you and breath in your apple honey shampoo scent.

As much as we share a love of food, we also enjoy fresh air and exercise to burn off all those butter and deep-fried calories. Sure, I like seeing a girl get all dressed up for a fancy night out, but what I enjoy even more is seeing that same girl let her hair down, throw on a t-shirt and a pair of shorts (or capris) and toss a football or frisbee around. Maybe we’ll have a little picnic. Maybe brownies will be our dessert. Maybe the brownies will be made of Nutella and avocado.

Just like us, we’re unique and special in our own way and when we’re united, we become an even better unique, the crazy and awesome kind. Nutella and avocado are both delicious on their own, so why not together? The first bite is definitely Nutella and the lingering taste is absolutely no doubt avocado.

It really works. Believe it.

Nutella Avocado Brownies

  • 1/4 cup of butter – room temperature
  • 1/2 of brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ripe mashed avocados
  • 1/3 cup of Nutella
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/4 cup of sliced almonds
  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and grease a 9×9 baking pan.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar well.
  3. Add the egg, avocados, Nutella and beat together.
  4. Sift and add the flour, baking powder, salt and beat again.
  5. Mix in the almonds and vanilla and stir together.
  6. Pour into the pan and bake for about 25 minutes at 350F or until a toothpick is inserted into the center and comes out with just a little batter on it.
  7. Cool for about 15 minutes and cut into squares.
  8. Enjoy the magic of Nutella and avocado.

I was intrigued with the little bit you shared on Twitter the other night. Avocado in brownies, eh? Nutella, no doubt. But avocado? I may just have to try that because I’m having a hard time imagining it.

Great post! :)

You did it! I am still in awe of your foodie bravery. I want to try the avocado chocolate pudding recipes I have seen so so so bad, but am still slightly terrified.

They look good and I think I even saw a speck of green? I will be trying because I have to say that I’ve eaten a Nutella Avocado Brownie. It’s on the Bucket List! :)

Thanks E!

Very interesting, VERY! I have seen desserts made with avocado, but they never looked appetizing, your brownies are a different story altogether!

How bizarre!! Yes, I’m skeptical… so of course this means I’ll have to try it out sometime.

Avocado in baked goods is just so wonderful. Not only does it add a lovely earthiness to them, but it also cuts down on the oil/butter needed

Tastes Better With Friends April 15, 2011 at 11:53 am

What I didn’t write was that I had to make a second batch and I cut the butter significantly because the avocados by themselves did the trick!

I love avocado so much. Obsessed wouldn’t even be too strong of a statement. Brilliant to mix them with my other love, brownies. If I make these I’ll probably eat the whole tray and convince myself it was a healthy decision… you know, give the nutritional content of the avocado.

My friend Joanne made something similar a few months ago and I arched my eyebrows in quite the doubtful way, but now with a second ringing endorsement, I might need to finally try them. I do love avocado.

I used to fantasize about meeting someone who would “do a little dance” with me in the kitchen. But the bright side of Paul being inept near the stove, means I never have to share the pot holders or wonder where my favorite spatula is.

this post brings back some very pleasant memories so thanks for that! but, avacado and brownies… I can’t even imagine it. A friend made the spinach brownies a few weeks ago from the cookbook Seinfeld’s wife wrote on how to get more hidden veggies into your kids… they… ummm… well… Kramer would have been blunt. lol. I might have to try this out just to see…

This is my favorite post you’ve ever done, seriouly. :) It makes me smile just reading it. Thank you for encouraging me to try the avocado (it deserves a the, haha). I never thought I’d like it. I can’t wait to try these out since I’m Nutella obsessed and now am becoming avocado obsessed. ;) Your brownies look sooo good.

How wonderfully sweet and romantic:) It is going to be one lucky girl that ends up in your kitchen.
I love your adventurous spirit:) Avocados do not have a strong taste and I can imagine how they can impart a lot of creaminess to brownies.
Lovely post!

Ethan what a sweet post :) I like the idea of these brownies but perhaps just with chocolate not Nutella. I have had little muffins made with avocados and choc before and they were delish, very moist and you couldn’t taste the green stuff at all!

Not that this has much to do with avocado brownies, but I heard The Pina Colada song in my head the whole time I read this post. I’m showing my age a little, I guess!

PS Of course, I would make said pina colada with avocado. =D

Is there any way these are healthier than regular brownies? I just made them, and I love them. So creamy! My boyfriend liked them too. But no proposal yet… :-) Do you happen to have nutritional facts?

Reply

Tastes Better With Friends April 20, 2011 at 12:10 am

Glad to hear they were a hit! No, sorry, I don’t have any nutritional facts, but let’s go with that they are healthy brownies :)
